What is CONCUSSION? Role of PT in CONCUSSION

CONCUSSION is a brain injury that can occur when the brain is violently shaken by a sudden hit, whiplash, jolt or anything which shakes the brain in back and forth motion like a jelly. This sudden shake breaks the neuron or brain cell network and results in dysfunction of the brain it's a functional injury. Concussions do not necessarily come from hits to the head. It occurs due to the acceleration of the brain inside the skull.

POST-CONCUSSION SYNDROME

It is also known as shell shock. PCS is a series of concussion symptoms that lasts for weeks, months or even a year. PCS can be a moderate to severe kind f brain injury. The symptoms can become very painful if it is not diagnosed on time or when the brain is put to work while injured. DIAGNOSIS – HOW ?

A concussion is often diagnosed by careful testing done by your health care provider such as a physical therapist. Unfortunately, no single test or tool is there to diagnose a concussion directly. Your physical therapist will perform some tests to identify the problems caused by a concussion including muscle strength, coordination, balance, speech, sight, hearing and memory tests.
