What is BMI(Body Mass Index)?

Views: 0 | Updated On: | By Dr. Rachana Jangir

BMI measures an individual's relative size concerning his body mass and height. It is used to measure if one's weight is healthy or not. BMI is the ratio of body weight to the square of height.

BMI unit is kg/m2.

An individual is considered healthy and has an appropriate weight if their BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. Nowadays, there’s a greater tendency to measure a person’s body fat percentage, which many believe is a more accurate indication of one’s health and well-being.

Range of BMI-

If your BMI is less than 18.5- it falls within the underweight range.

If your BMI is 18.5 to 24.9-it falls within the Healthy Weight range.

If your BMI is 25.0 to 29.9- it falls within the overweight range.

If your BMI is 30.0 or higher- it falls within the obese range.
