Weight loss- Causes of unintentional weight loss

There are several medical and non-medical reasons why weight loss is unexplained. Often, a combination of things results in a general decline in your health and related weight loss. Other symptoms are typically present in medical diseases that induce weight loss. An exact cause isn't always discovered.

Potential causes of unexplained weight loss include:



1. Cancer, Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), Dementia, Hypercalcemia (high blood calcium level).

2. Dental problems, Depression (major depressive disorder), Diabetes, Hyponatremia (low blood sodium level).

3. Medications



4. Parkinson's disease, Previous stroke or neurological disorders.

Weight loss may be one of the signs of the following less frequent conditions:

1. Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency), Amyloidosis, Crohn's disease



2. Celiac disease, Drug addiction (substance use disorder)

3. COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) — is the blanket term for a group of diseases that block airflow from the lungs — including emphysema.

4. Heart failure HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Peptic ulcer, Ulcerative colitis (a type of inflammatory bowel disease).
