MEASLES-INTRODUCTION,CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TRATMENT

The condition called ‘Measles’ is a severe and highly infectious viral disease generally seen in children. As per Ayurveda, Measles is considered as ‘Romantika’

It is transmitted as air borne infection i.e. through droplets from mouth throat and nose. It is characterized by fever and symptoms of the upper respiratory tract like cold and cough . Measles shows a skin rash that is very typical.



As per Ayurveda, It occurs due to vitiation of doshas (dosha vriddhi ),over flow of dosha (dosha prakopa) and etiological vectors in tissues(strotavaigunya ) respectively. These lead to the classical infection and tissue invasion for which cell injury takes place and causes enwrapment of tissues (dhatu avarana )and loss of tissues(dhatu kshaya ), with the initiation of the diseases.

CAUSES OF MEASLES- The commonest cause of measles is a virus that multiplies in the nose and throat of an infected child or adult. Measles is a common problem in children. Measles virus is very contagious and it easily spread out from one person through respiration, coughs and sneezes of the infected person in the air, skin contact, or via touching objects having touched by the infected person. vitamin A deficiency and, weak immunity are other common causes of Measles.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF MEASLE- The signs and symptoms of measles are generally seen around 10 - 14 days after getting exposed to the virus.



• Moderate or high fever

• Cold and dry cough.

• Thrist



• Irritation,swelling and redness in the eyes

• Headache

• Soreness of throat

• Koplik's spots- Tiny white spots bluish-white center on a red background.

• Pinkish or red rashes on the body



• Restlessness

• Watery discharge from the nose

• Sneezing

MEASLES AYURVEDIC TREATMENT- There is no specific treatment for measles. Most patients with uncomplicated measles will recover with rest and supportive treatment.

Some rule for measles- • isolated from others to prevent the disease from spreading.



• Following a proper medication to reduce fever.

• Follow a normal diet and avoid foods which are spicy, oily, fatty and hard to digest, any constipation causing foods must be avoided.

• Keep warm yourself by wearing warm clothes.

• Give yourself a complete rest.

• Vaccinate other children if any in the family.

• Light digestible food with warm water for drinking .

• Include lots of fruits especially citrus fruits and fruits with water content in your diet.

• Hydrate youself
