Asthma: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

What is Asthma? Asthma, an inflammatory disease affects the airways to and from the lungs. There are a lot of people from various parts of the globe suffering from various types of allergies. One of them is asthma, which is associated to respiratory problems and lungs.

in Asthma patients airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when the patient breathe out, and shortness of breath. For some people, asthma is a minor nuisance.



People irrespective of any age group are affected from it. However, it is mostly detected in children. The ailment shows the harmful impact, especially during cold, rainy, and cloudy climatic conditions. The frequency and intensity of asthma attacks get increased during these environmental zones.

Due to overconsumption of Kaphaj Aahara, Vihara (dietary and lifestyle habits) like more intake of heavy, cold, sticky, lubricated food items, sleeping during the day, no workout, etc. causes vitiation of Kapha dosha (One of the physical energy in the body). This vitiated Kapha dosha causes obstructions of respiratory channels and again vitiates Vata dosha. Therefore Vata's natural flow is obstructed and again it leads to channels obstructions. All of this causes the windpipe's narrowing and asthma symptoms developed.

What is the cause of Asthma?



•The most common asthma triggers include allergies, air pollution and other airborne irritants, other health conditions including respiratory infections, exercise or physical activity, weather and air temperature, strong emotions, and some medicines.

• Smoking at the time of pregnancy.



Common Symptoms of Asthma •Shortness of breath.

•Chest tightness or pain.

• Pus-like sputum

•Wheezing when exhaling, which is a common sign of asthma in children.

•Trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing.



•Coughing or wheezing attacks that are worsened by a respiratory virus, such as a cold or the flu.

For some people, asthma signs and symptoms flare up in certain situations, such as -

Allergy-induced asthma, is triggered by airborne substances, such as pollen, mold spores, cockroach waste, or particles of skin and dried saliva shed by pets (pet dander)

Exercise-induced asthma, which may be worse when the air is cold and dry.

Your physician may prescribe medications to control symptoms. These include:-

Bronchodilators- These medicines relax the muscles around airways. The relaxed muscles let the airways move air. They also let mucus move more easily through the airways. These medicines relieve symptoms when they happen and are used for intermittent and chronic asthma.

Anti-inflammatory medicines- These medicines reduce swelling and mucus production in the airways. They make it easier for air to enter and exit your lungs.

Biologic therapies for asthma: These are used for severe asthma when symptoms persist despite proper inhaler therapy.
