Ascites is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in peritoneal cavity and it is also known as Jalodara in Ayurveda is a gastro-enterological condition of the abdomen that mainly refers to the accumulation of toxic fluid in the peritoneal cavity which chiefly leads to abdominal distension or swelling.

It is described in Charaka, Sushruta, and Ashtanghridaya.



Abdominal swelling caused by accumulation of fluid, most often related to liver disease.

What are the symptoms of ascites?

The main symptoms of ascites are a large belly and rapid weight gain.



Swelling in your ankles.

Shortness of breath.

Digestive issues, such as bloating, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, indigestion and constipation.



Back pain.

Difficulty sitting.

Fatigue.

How is ascites diagnosed?

What tests might need?

After the initial exam, physician will recommend other tests to confirm a diagnosis.
